busy, busy, busy.

Unfortunately, the last Spokes Ride did not occur. We went to Caffe Nero on Lothian Road, ate cake, drank coffee and chatted. So even if we don't have a ride, its still worth tuning up for a natter. I did feel a bit guilty, with the sun shining. I didn't even turn up on the bike. Good job too. Five seconds after boarding the bus to go home, and it absolutely tipped it down. Them angels have big buckets. So hopefully those of you who turned up, didn't get too wet going home. Also hopefully, the bionic woman with her new knee didn't rust!!!

The Mood:

"No Spring nor Summer Beauty hath such grace As I have seen in one Autumnal face." - John Donne

Twenty Eight, yes 28, people turned up for this Sunday's Bike Ride. Flat light didn't seem to interfere with the autumnal colours on the trees. Amid the Green, Gold and Red we went to Mid Calder in West Lothian. The ride was shorter and slower, not helped by the westerly November breeze, but we still arrived at Mid Calder just after 12. We returned to Edinburgh via the scenic route, the Pentland Hills and Reservoirs following the track from Bavelaw to Harlaw, then from Easter Kinleith to Bonaly. As one person put it, "Simply beautiful.". That despite the fact the sun didn't even attempt at making an appearance, the light was flat, tempered now and again by coppery colours indicating Mother Nature is winding down for another year.

A Jazzy Musical Trip To Aberdour

Which came first? The Bicycle or The Combine Harvester

Surreal isn't the word for this wonderful ride to Aberdour in Fife. The Spokes Ride was DRY and WARM and SUNNY, we had 19 people turn up. We missed all the rain by going to Aberdour. Lunch was accompanied by a Jazz Trio at the Woodside Hotel. Very civilised. Quite possibly the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had, simply sublime. The only downside was the large number of punctures. Unfortunately 2 people had to take the train home, but everyone seemed to have a great time.

Cool Damp Start, Warm Happy Resolution

"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." ~ Albert Camus

A damp start to Sunday obviously put some people off this month. 17 people did turn up for the annual jaunt to Linlithgow. Lots of new faces, welcome to you. Despite the cool morning, it was quite a nice ride, quite fast in the Afternoon, as most of it was downhill :-). This post is late as I had to answer qustions about my MSc dissertation.

Respite from the dissertation

"A journey of 1000 miles must begin with a single crank-turn."

We went to Aberlady. Thanks to everyone who turned up, I hope you enjoyed the bike ride. Sorry if you turned up late and missed us, but we do leave at 10:15. I am very sorry I didn't get your call until a lot later. However, from next month I will have a more prominent place for my mobile on my bike, so hopefully I won't miss texts or calls because I cannot hear the phone buried in my rackpack.
