Next Spokes Ride

Sunday 3rd July 2022. Meet at 10:00 outside the Usher Hall, Lothian Rd.

Destination to be decided on Wednesday. Distance will be around 70km (42 miles). Lunch in a café.

Please check your bike before the ride, i.e. tyre pressure, chain and brakes. Bring some money for emergencies and café stops and/or post ride refreshments. Don't forget snacks to keep your energy levels up and a drink to consume en-route.

Don't forget to bring a small toolkit to fit your bike and a spare inner tube in case you get a puncture. It is much easier to replace the tube than to repair a tube, especially if you have a slow puncture.

First Sunday in March Cycle Ride 2003, which was led by the CTC this month, who kindly took it over at the last minute because my father passed away quite suddenly. Thanks Guys.

In Stuarts absence, the run was led by Neil in consultation with Stef to see if he could include any hills I had missed - nope got them all we reckon. We started out from Usher hall as 13 and remained as such for most of the run.The route was Meadows, Marchmont Road, then out past the observatory to King's Buildings after which the hill seeking began, we climbed Kirkbrae, continued out Lasswade Road and across the Lang Loan, into Loanhead, from Straiton, then across Bilston Glen viaduct, through Roslin, round by the sandpit, down through Auchendinny, where the only thorny issue occurred with Jody's dad to getting a puncture.  The group which was fairly strung out and led by Mike Bonar joined the Penicuik trail with me then chasing them for over a mile to the foot of Kirkhill. (don't ask why the leader was at the back)

I then backtracked to ensure that all was well with Stef, Eric & Jody.

After regrouping we stopped for coffees etc at the Craigiebield Hotel where the brave / mad sat outdoors.

After that we climbed Cornbank and cut thru from Caplaw way, onto the unclassified Lowries Den road and climbed to the A702, followed that towards Edinburgh and turned right (where Iain Graham left us) past Glencorse kirk, to Milton bridge then to the Countryside, where Stef left us, past Easter Bush onto the A703 to Hillend then in to Fairmilehead where Mike Bonar & Dougie and I left the group, now 8, to make its way to the Usher Hall.
